Gay People Bullying Evangelicals? It Could Happen One Day, Say Evangelicals

The Daily Show‘s Samantha Bee took on bullying this week — the bullying of evangelicals by gay people.

“The Christians that I talked to are intimidated,” radio host Matt Slick told Bee. “They’ll often get intimidated, they’ll often get persecuted … for just saying that they believe that homosexuality is wrong, or that homosexuals are sinful — just like adulterers, just like pedophiles, just like liars, just like thieves.”

“It was clear [that] intolerance towards Christians was a huge problem,” Bee reported, “in his mind.”

The far right is jealous of how much attention gay people get for being bullied. So what if suicide is the leading cause of death for LGBT teens who are disportionately homeless compared to heterosexual youth, and are more likely to be sexually victimized?

Gary Brown, an Atlanta pastor, claims that “there is a lot of bullying directed at Christian kids in public schools and the culture at large. So many teenagers are being ostracized for being a Christian.”

Despite this, examples of teens being kicked out of their homes or forced to move schools — as LBGT youth often are — after coming out as Christian are few and far between.

Slick warned that “homosexuals go out and find straights to beat up.” Clearly, he’s a South Park fan.

The supposed victimization of the majority is a favorite trope of the conservative movement, typified by the War on CHRISTmas, the topic of Sarah Palin’s forthcoming book. It will likely feature a chapter on Kwanzaa bullying America’s favorite holiday.
